Long Crendon Youth FC was established in the Spring of 2006 to provide boys with competitive football in an environment where an expectation of winning was regarded as healthy and developmental.
This means competing for places and setting out to win football matches by selecting the best available team.
By setting out to be the very best, both on and off the pitch, we stand more than a fair chance of achieving it!
Whilst a completely independent club, we chose Long Crendon FC as our natural "parent club" to benefit from their experience and support and to provide the boys with the opportunity of making a natural transition to men's football at the appropriate time, thereby strengthing the village club.
Values: Past experience has told us that it is important to state very clearly the principles a club believes in so people can get a feel for whether they will be comfortable with the way the club is run. The principles on which this club was founded include the following:
;; To set out to win games with the best available team, as per league rules, and according to the manager’s judgement based on the five “A’s” - availability, attendance, attitude, activity (effort) and ability
;; To see the squad as a diamond shape whereby, in the opinion of the manager, the few consistently outstanding players at the top will usually play, the vast majority in the middle will play most weeks, sharing opportunities with team mates who play in similar positions and the few players at the bottom of the diamond will play occasionally, needing to improve in some way before being considered for regular or full games.
;; To give all boys equal opportunity to develop through training and to earn a place in the team
;; To make sensible and appropriate use of substitutions according to what is happening in the match
;; To give priority to the interests of the team over any individual's interests
;; To help boys learn and develop as individuals. For example, we believe that learning how to behave under pressure, to deal with winning and losing, to work hard to achieve recognition and reward, to trust and respect, to rely on and be part of a team are lifetime skills
;; To tell boys what they do well, also where and how to improve without any personal criticism
;; To train boys to play well in a particular position so both they and their team mates know what they will be doing each week on the pitch during play and team tactics can develop
;; To maintain high standards of appearance and behaviour
;; To follow principles of good sportsmanship
;; To look for opportunities to improve as a club, as coaches and as players
;; To leave the running of the team to the manager and his assistants and for the Committee to run the Club
;; To have fun!
Since forming as Long Crendon Youth FC in 2006, the team has won the Chinnor 6-a-side tournament and come runners up in both the Wendover and Chiltern 6-a-side tournaments. In 2008, the Club won the Referee's Cup Final under flooodlights at Marlow Stadium and in 2009, were Divison 2 Champions in the Bucks Free Press League.
Off field, the Club acheived Charter Standard status and, out of 900 clubs in Berks and Bucks, won the Charter Standard Club of the Year in 2008.
