Hat-trick hero Matt Smith ended his goal famine with a brilliant display of attacking prowess to haul us back from a two goal deficit to secure all three points against 10-men Chalfont. Caught cold within two minutes of the start, the visitors took the lead with their first attack of the game. Twenty minutes later, they extended their lead when captain Glen Arrowsmith could only help the ball into his net after poor defending. Enter striker Matt Smith who then found himself unmarked in space 25-yards out to line up and strike a sweet goal-bound effort that flew over the despairing Wasps keeper for the first of our comeback goals.
Then, after an inspirational half-time talk by manager Duncan Hughes, we started the second half with renewed vigour and it wasn't long before Matt Smith's second began an extraordinary fightback. With solid defending from Harry Pettingell and industrious midfield displays from Ryan Murray and Adam Bemister, it seemed a third and winning goal was inevitable and so it proved to be, courtesy of that man Matt Smith again.
In summary, the game can best be described as a deserved 3-2 victory for us with two key team members absent and a struggling but courageous captain however the game belonged to striker Matt Smith who hit form when it mattered most.
